Created in 1937 by Father Charles-Emile Gadbois, the editions of the good song broadcast French song and folklore in Quebec in order to counter the ever-increasing popularity of American song.
All the lyrics and melodies of the editions of the good song were Catholic-inspired and aimed at promoting family values.
The good song was on the curriculum of all Quebec primary schools.
