"Foster Grant was an American plastic molding and manufacturing company specializing in eyeglasses. Originally founded in 1919 by Sam Foster to produce women's hair accessories, the first pair of eyeglasses sold in 1929 at Woolworth's in Atlantic City. In 1934, Foster Grant became the first American company to adopt injection molding. Their famous 1960s advertising campaign, "Who's Behind These Foster Grants," made it a household word. Foster Grant's original molding operation focused on making a variety of sunglass frames with glass. In the early 1970s, Foster Grant introduced cast acrylic lenses and later developed silicone hard coatings to protect the lenses from scratching."
