Founded in 1938, the weekly magazine SPIROU was first published under the title "Journal de Spirou". In addition to featuring European authors such as Jijé, Franquin, Morris, Will and Eddy Paape, it also published numerous American series (Tarzan, Red Ryder, Brick Bradford).
The creation in France in 1949 of the commission for the surveillance and control of publications intended for children and adolescents, with the aim of reducing the publication of American series, new authors appeared (Peyo, Roba, Tillieux, Macherot, Sirius).
These new arrivals breathe new energy into the competitor of the JOURNAL TINTIN, coinciding with the golden age of the Journal SPIROU.
After more than 80 years of existence, Journal Spirou is still published weekly in a format containing 52 pages.
