Feraud (1921-1999) opened his first boutique in Cannes in the early 1950s, launching his career in fashion. By a stroke of luck, Brigitte Bardot bought one of his dresses, and the resulting publicity helped solidify his reputation. He dressed her for several of her films and gained a loyal clientele among Hollywood stars, including Kim Novak and Ingrid Bergman.
In 1955, he settled in Paris and opened a ready-to-wear salon. Shortly after, he founded a couture house catering to an elite clientele. He organized his first fashion show in 1960, after which his creations were distributed in boutiques in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
In the 1960s, Feraud was renowned for his bold, graphic dresses and suits, typical of modern fashion. His style softened in the 1970s, giving rise to a look dubbed "Les Gitans" (The Gypsies). He won the Golden Thimble for his Spring/Summer 1978 Haute Couture collection, and again in 1984. In the early 1980s, he created a line of fragrances for Avon. Alongside his career as a designer, he was also a painter and exhibited his work in Paris, Tokyo, and New York.
