With her brothers Jean and Alain, her sister Nicole, her friends, her dog Patapouf and the cat Moustache, Martine, a little girl aged about ten years, lives "adventures" based in everyday life.

Since the first album Martine on the Farm, released by Casterman in 1954 Martine has become a phenomenon of youth publishing.

As soon as it was published, the series was an immediate success and became a phenomenon of youth publishing.

The illustrations focus on pastel colors, light and detail. The decorations, clothes of the characters and the expression of these are particularly neat.

The series testifies to a certain ideal of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. But at the turn of the 1980s, it appeared for some as a work frozen in time, staging a sexist and bourgeois universe
