Poet, novelist and art critic, Théophile Gautier (1811-1872) participated in the Romantic movement. Victor Hugo was his mentor. Author of the famous novel "LE CAPITAINE FRACASSE", he was also a precursor of the poetic movement called "PARNASSE" which could be summed up in this saying: "Art for art's sake".
