Here is a very rare copy of a small book (11.5 x 8 cm) by Nicolas Boileau, one of the leading theorists of classical aesthetics in literature and contemporary Louis XIV.

"The Satires" are Boileau's first important writings. Published from 1666, he attacked his contemporaries as Jean Chapelain (the main literary authority of the time)

which he considered to be in poor taste. His satires were a considerable success.

SATIRES.
