Here is a very rare copy of a small format book (11.5 x 8 cm) by Bernardin de St Pierre (1737-1814).
Published in 1788, Paul et Virginie evokes romantic feelings and depicts the melancholy resulting from paradise lost. Inspired by his disappointed loves, the author describes a pessimistic vision of existence. A follower of Rousseau, Bernardin de St Pierre focuses in this novel on the description of an idyllic society.
