The 10th album in the series The Adventures of Tintin, this album was published in the midst of a world conflict (1942) while Hergé's Belgium was occupied by Nazi Germany.
The Shooting Star marks the beginning of four-color printing for Tintin albums. With the appearance of mushrooms, apples, and giant spiders, the fantastical enters Hergé's universe for the first time. It also deals with the rivalry for progress between Europe and the United States.

A meteorite fragment has fallen in the Arctic. Accompanied by European scientists, Tintin and Captain Haddock mount an expedition to recover a piece of it. The expedition turns into a race against time when a rival ship, financed by a New York financier, tries to arrive first...
