Created in 1938, the weekly SPIROU first appeared under the title "Journal de Spirou". In addition to finding European authors such as Jijé, Franquin, Morris, Will and Eddy Paape, many American series are also published (Tarzan, Red Ryder, Brick Bradford).
The creation in France in 1949 of the commission for the supervision and control of publications intended for children and adolescents, with the aim of reducing the publication of American series, new authors appear (Peyo, Roba, Tillieux, Macherot, Sirius).
These newcomers infused the competitor of the JOURNAL TINTIN with a new energy coinciding with the golden age of the Journal SPIROU.
After more than 80 years of existence, the Journal Spirou still appears weekly in a format containing 52 pages.
