Created in 1937 by Father Charles-Émile Gadbois, the publishing house Éditions de la Bonne Chanson disseminated French songs and folklore in Quebec in order to counter the ever-increasing popularity of American songs.
All the lyrics and melodies in the "Good Song" editions were Catholic-inspired and aimed to promote family values.
The good song was part of the curriculum in all Quebec elementary schools.
